Our ferocious guard-dog Joey keeping the nasty purple elephants at bay

Just an ordinary Joe, who is 40 years young, living an ordinary life in one of earth's most extraordinary places. I am blessed to wake each morning to see the mountains and the sea and the forests between. Some mornings I am even lucky enough to wake up above the clouds.

By day I am a senior QA (Quality Assurance) Manger for a large investment and life insurance group, by night I am the savior of many pixels.

I am a humanist so I don't care if you are Black, White, Gay, Straight, Muslim, Catholic, a Buddhist, Jewish, French, German, English, American, Arabic or a pot plant with pink hair. I value you because you are different and an individual in an ever increasing world that wants to remove individualism and install a herd-like mentality amongst its citizens so that we can continuously be divided as human beings. Brother against brother. Sister against sister. If we could remove all these rubbish labels that we as humans like to use then we ourselves could be god's.

Married to the mob
Review in under a minute
Mafia II has all the trappings of a decent mob story from family is everything to revenge being a dish best served cold; to not biting the hand that feeds you or sawing off the branch that you are sitting on but sadly it ends up not really telling us anything new, instead choosing to drown the player in one mobster cliche after the next. That is not to say that the game, for the duration of its play, is not entertaining, because it certainly is. It could, however, have been so much better. Gameplay can be a bit of a mixed bag as well as there is a little bit too much repetition in the mission structure. For the most part, despite the repitition, I found the missions entertaining except for when I neared the end of the game and it devolved, for me personally, into a bit of a frustrating mess, forcing the player to restart lengthy gun battles with hordes of other mobsters. This tempered my enjoyment of the game a bit which was not helped by the dreadfully abrupt and deeply disappointing ending. On a positive note, Mafia II has an entertaining cover system which works for the most part when engaged in shoot outs in wonderfully destructive environments where wood splinters, glass shatters, bricks and mortar crumble which certainly adds to the immersion. The AI, sadly, was not really up to snuff as there seemed to be no intelligence coded into how enemies reacted to your presence only simply just popping out from behind whatever they were hiding behind. Mafia II's digitally created playground, Empire Bay, is wonderful to explore especially as seasons change so do the music and cars of the era. While character development is a bit one-sided, mainly focusing on the two main characters (Vito and Joe) while the rest of the cast remain cardboard cutouts, Vito and Joe do in the end make an entertaining duo. In the end Mafia II ends up being greater than the sum of its parts and it's for that reason it gets a "recommended" from me.
One word to sum up the experience
Performance/Bug related incidents
On my new rig I had issues with the game running on 120hz monitor as the game would completely freeze up. Also I was one of the unfortunate few who got stuck with the camera issue where it would hover just slightly behind the main characters head and never reposition itself again. Thankfully I had an old laptop I could install this game on and it played flawlessly. Just be aware of the possible issues you could run into.

Lovers of narrative-driven adventures and character development. The pew-pew bits are quite good too.

Um, in case my pm gets lost cause valve is forever amazing. Gonna put this on spoilers because it's disturbing but it's about Nerd House. You called him your friend on his wall, so I was wondering if you've heard from him or have a way to contact him out of steam? He left a post last night with a game attached titled "Suicide Guy" and say goodbye everyone. I have picture proof of this if you should need it. It's been a while and I don't believe anyones heard from him so.. Just wondering if you knew anything I guess. I'll delete this after if you'd raher have pms on the subject.
